Born in Tel Aviv and raised throughout Israel, Turkey and Switzerland, Yossi Harari grew up surrounded by many fine objects and environments to delight his senses. Influenced by his grandfather’s vast art and antiques collections, Yossi developed his passion for jewelry design at an early age. At the age of eleven, Yossi surprised his mother by redesigning one of her diamond rings. Yossi later went on to receive his formal training and degrees in Gemology and Jewelry design from the Gemological Institute of America in Los Angeles, followed by a History of Arts degree from Tel Aviv University.
In 1992, Yossi opened his first atelier in Istanbul, where his works are still being created today. Yossi’s designs, inspired by the spectacular influences of the region from which he comes, meld the exotic and the modern, creating a unique look for the wearer. As Yossi himself says, “My jewelry is a contrast between the old and the new. Although I am inspired by archeological jewels of the past, I have a modern, bold interpretation of classic designs.”
Incorporating diamonds and precious and semiprecious gemstones with 24 karat gold and oxidized gold, the versatility of the jewelry is expressed in the way it is worn – a dramatic yet relaxed layering of pieces. Each piece is unique and makes a statement on its own, but the layering of different pieces allows the woman to create her own look. Even when piled on, the overall effect is still elegantly laid back. “I design for the modern woman – the woman on the go, who wants to be comfortable yet sexy, exotic yet modern, fashionable yet possessing her own sense of style.”
