Bretney Moore brought the line 'Hubris and Homefries' to life during the summer of 06' when an extended vacation in her native Connecticut led the company's designer/owner to put her leisure hours to uber-stylish use. Bretney, drawing on her fascination with the 'reincarnation' of all things vintage as well as the inherent nostalgia encirceling one's childhood years, combined the two elements in her brand new line of charming custom-made handbags, clutches, and wallets.
As a young girl growing up in the quaint shoreline town of Chester Village, Connecticut, Bretney displayed an early (almost preternatural) appreciation for the generations prior to her own. She tirelessly ravaged her grandmother's basement, attic, and personal closets and became obsessed with the items therein. She favored her late grandfather's Stetsons (in their original boxes), her great-great-aunt's fur trimmed winter coats, and any and all of the handbags she could get her little paws on! In fact, it was the acquisition of the aforementioned winter coats and moving to Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where she donned them with the fervor of some yet undiscovered fashionista, which developed her belief in the 'reincarnation' of fashion.
Each piece begins its new life as a part of the H&H line as soon as Bretney picks it out, guided by its era and the untold stories of past lives as well as its potential in an entirely new era- 'reincarnated,' 'restored,' and made anew. Let's suffice to say that not unlike matter, Hubris and Homefries seeks to convey the idea that a classic piece cannot truly be created or destroyed , but is able to change from form to form. That is the idea behind the design of the flagship Hubris and Homefries line.
